Hello~ Can you please provide a contact for me to get information of the technique of making Arraiolos rugs. I have the book by Patricia Stone which gives some good instructions, however, I'm stuck on how to go about making the 'traveling stitches' and would like someone to help me.
Thank you,
Jan

It's a lot of fun to be part of this club! The food is good, the drinks are good and the company is even better. We've become not only a group of "rug crafters" but also a group of good friends. I look foward to our meetings every week. Any excuse to celebrate is good enough for our club, so I look foward to all of the celebrations to come!

I am very proud of all of you.
LOVE

Ola a todas!!! Beijocas e ate breve.
This is amazing. I aspire to have something similar in my life both now and in the future. Beautiful friendships and beautiful art...what more could you ask for in life?
I look forward to keeping tabs on your journey.

Although there have been many anonymous references to my attendance at the club meetings and, references to my seemingly unwillingness to learn the necessary skills, I truly enjoy every moment that I am able to attend! What a great bunch of women! So many personalities in one room. Trying to learn the intricate stitching techniques over and over again amidst an overwhelming amount of mojitos being consumed in one afternoon is like trying to learn to play golf with one eye closed. To my surprise, some of the members showing good heartedness and a little pity, completed one of my beautiful pillows for me. I will forever treasure it. Thank you all for your friendship! May I one day achieve greatness like many of you and may I never be expelled from this truly delightful club!
Love,
Bela

Mena

Monique

if anyone is interested, Serranofil and Rosarios sell Arraiolos rug kits. Rosarios accept paypal. Serranofil may be more difficult to obtain but not impossible. The Sept/Oct. 1999 issue of Piecework magazine ( Interweave Press) has a good article about Portuguese rugs..diagrams show how to embroider..a bit of history..very well done. Also the classic book by Patricia Stone ( out of print but available on e bay or other sources) " Portuguese Needlework Rugs, the time- honored Art of Arraiolos Rugs adapted for Modern Handcrafters" extensive explainations and lots of charts of rugs and pillows. It does not look too difficult..worth the try. The rugs are so beautiful. Not the same as visiting Portugal but a lot cheaper. Happy stitching Monique

Hello ladies,
Just wanted to thank you for your time at SCP over the past few months. I also want to thank you for displaying the rugs at the ProVerbo Gala last November, it added a very nice element to the event. I am happy to finally have my little rug to start working on! Again, on behalf of the SCP Board, our sincere gratitude for adding a great benefit to our community. Hopefully we can see the interest grow over the next months...

Just wondering if you all still get together? I am trying to find the time to finish my rug with fellow enthusiasts. I learned with the International Womens Club of Lisbon in 2002-3. I have lots of pattern books and a fantastic handwritten instruction booklet in English. It even has illustrations.
Am currently living on the Jersey Shore.

I am part of the Jackson Stitchery Guild in Jackson, MS and we are looking for someone to teach us the beautiful art of making the Arraiolos rugs. Can you give me any direction in this matter?

Obrigada!

Hello~ I am wondering if you still have your meetings. I just acquired Patricia Stone's book on Portuguese Needlework Rugs and would love to learn the technique and also get more information on where to get supplies.
I live in Maine, so I don't know if I'd be able to make the trip to New Jersey for lessons, but how about Skype?? Any info you could provide would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Jan

Hi Sandra,
The title of the book is "Portuguese Needlework Rugs" by Patricia Stone, copyright 1981. I bought it off a seller on Amazon.com.
I've been practicing several of the stitching techniques which are challenging but very satisfying once you get the hang of it.
I'm hoping to hear from anyone who participates in this group on where to find supplies and answer questions on stitching techniques.
Best,
Jan
